Tollgate Village is located in Thompson’s Station in the heart of Williamson County, Tenn. The town, which is seven miles south of Franklin and adjacent to Spring Hill, is just minutes from some of Middle Tennessee’s most appealing attractions. Add to that its rich Southern tradition, plus the excellent school system, and you have a great community for living life to its fullest.
Rich in history, the 14.7 square miles that eventually became Thompson’s Station were settled in 1799 by pioneers from Virginia and North Carolina who had received land grants for service in the Revolutionary War. The community, originally called Whit House and then Littlebury, officially became Thompson’s Station in 1856 in honor of Dr. Elijah Thompson, who provided the land on which the village was built. Dr. Thompson secured funds for the railroad, making Thompson’s Station a prosperous shipping center for southern Williamson County.
It wasn’t until 1990, however, that the official incorporation of Thompson’s Station occurred. Town members wanted to stop encroaching annexation from Spring Hill, which saw tremendous growth thanks to the addition of General Motors’ Saturn plant. At that time, the town’s population was 427. By 2006, Thompson’s Station had grown to include 1,650 residents.
Thompson’s Station’s central location makes it easy to enjoy all the conveniences the area has to offer. The flourishing town of Spring Hill, home to Saturn’s headquarters, is just a few miles south on Columbia Pike. The abundant dining and shopping options of Cool Springs, as well as Nissan North America’s future headquarters, are a mere 11 minutes away via SR 840. This new highway also provides a swift 25-minute route to downtown Nashville. Although the final phases of it are still under construction, SR 840 will allow quick access to I-40 and Memphis upon completion.
Williamson County Medical Center in Franklin offers Thompson’s Station residents the option of superb health care close to home. The Medical Center recently received renewal of its Gold Seal of Approval from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, an honor awarded to only 8,000 hospitals across the entire U.S. Franklin, with its historic buildings and beautiful architecture, affords numerous other opportunities, as well. TripAdvisor.com named Franklin one of the Top Ten Hot Travel Destinations for 2007.
